A large gathering of Spec Racers from around the country came to Summit Point and Dan looked to extend his string of consecutive victories at Summit Point. Harry played instructor while Bobbie and John Beazley took the pink car out in the schools. Brandon Searcey was the crew chief and we were joined by some assorted Cobra fans from the northeast known as 'Club Cranky'.
The real hard part was that the car had just
come back from some significant changes to the engine and suspension. On
Friday, Dan was in meetings while Bobbie drove so Harry was left to basically
put the car back together again. When it came time to race on Saturday,
the car had just been completed thanks to Harry working almost non-stop since
Thursday. The Saturday race featured a great start by Dan from the pole
position and gave Team Elam another win, but the real key was Harry's work to
get the car back together and ready to race.
The racers got more serious about Sunday. Leonard Conn, a talented driver from Oklahoma, qualified on the pole while Dan just managed to beat out John McIver from Detroit thanks to some lackluster driving because of the wet road conditions. The sun came out before the race, however, and dried out part of the course. With Bobbie playing spotter on the radio, Dan got another good job at the green and was in first place before the first turn. From there it was just a matter of trying to put some room in between the other Cobras. At the finish it was Dan with a nearly 40 second lead and a fourth-consecutive win at Summit Point.
Scott and Keith of Bella fame met us at the track to pick up their new monkey baby. Since there were there, we arranged from some rides around the track before they began the trek back to Wisconsin with their little angel.
It wasn't all fun and games though. Despite our planning, the paddock spaces were screwed up and we were unable to paddock and spend much time with a group of Cobra-enthusiasts known as 'Club Cranky'. Once again, the soon-to-be-parents (Rathbuns) at Euroimage took some fun pics!
