This is one of the neat wonders in 
America.  The White 
Sands National Monument is a 275 square mile set of bright white dunes in 
the middle of a desert valley floor.  You can see them for miles around.  
The bright white gypsum washes from the nearby mountains, dries out, and then is 
blown into the valley where they form these
massive dunes.  
The sand is powder fine and some people even bring snow boards to ski down the 
dunes.  Unfortunately, my camera lens got some dirt that I didn't notice 
and otherwise marred some beautiful pictures.
